Claire Kelly Teen Missions 2013 – Project Samoa

I have registered as a member of the 2013-2014 Samoa Cyclone Relief team with Teen Missions Int'l Australia.  Our team will be helping to rebuild, so that our Pacific brothers and sisters can carry on with their lives and ministries as they were before the advent of Cyclone Evan.  We hope to  be able to help with a more permanent structure that will stand up to the devastating winds and heavy rains that batter these islands during the cyclone season.  We fly to Samoa, landing on the main island of Upolo just outside the capital city of Apia, from there a short bus ride will take us to our project site.

My fellow team members and I will start by meeting at the Tewantin Boot Camp on the Sunshine Coast.  There we will begin 10 days of intensive training at the primitive jungle camp of Teen Missions Int'l Australia.  Our training schedule includes running an obstacle course, personal devotions, Bible classes, basic construction classes, evangelism, music, puppets and Bible memory.  Boot Camp will climax with a candlelight Commissioning service.  Everyone going to work at the field locations will light a candle, which represents accepting the challenge to take the light of the Gospel around the world.

At the conclusion of our project, we will return to Tewantin where we will join the other Teen Missions teams for Debrief.  Several days of training are set aside to prepare us for returning home to family, church, youth group and friends.  Classes include "How to share your summer" and "How to help my youth group".  After this time of blessing and fellowship, I will return home.

I am asking my friends to pray for me and to make contributions to cover the expense of being a member on the Samoa Cyclone Relief team.  As one way to raise my finances, I need about 22 friends who would be willing to contribute $25.00 a month for 4 months, a total of $100 each.  (All contributions must be in before November 1, 2013).  May I count on you to be one of the 22?  Please let me know if you are able to commit to this, or even to provide a one-time donation.  Every dollar helps!
