August 7,2014 is where our story begins. The darkest day of our life. Our son CJ who is 14 years old was out having a fun filled day with friends skateboarding through the neighborhood. This was just a typical day for him. He was on his way back to the house according to a friend who was with him. Sadly that early evening day took him in a different direction, children's hospital is where he ended up at. The accident happened as we were told ,Cj was skating down a small grade hill as I mentioned with his friend, a street he has rode bikes on and skated for years. As he came down he waived at a sheriff who lives nearby loss balanced and flipped hitting full force his front and back of his head. The sheriff was off duty who helped our helpless child. Noted that he was bleeding from the right ear. Once the paramedics arrived they knew he had head trauma of course and needed to load and go with him. In route to hospital they had to start bagging him. Eventually it came to putting a breathing tube down his throat. They begin testing in the trauma room at children's and saw he had a blod clot forming. Was keeping a close watch on it to see if it was growing. Doing a scan every couple hours. The outcome it was getting larger. Without the surgery he had zero percent chance with surgery it wasnt to much better. No hesitations surgery it is. The procedure was Epidural hematoma. Suffered Fracture of Clivus of occipital bone, temporal bone fracture, multiple contusions. Traumatic brain injury. Cj is a fighter that was proven after he was woke up from his coma. We know he was in a coma after the fall but was always medically kept in a coma for about a week or close to it at least. Felt like months to our family though. Cj was determined he was going to take control of his life and fight the fight. If my days are correct I believe he started talking about a week after he was awoken. He was always a go getter in everything he did. Great young man. He pulled out his feeding tube and from that moment on he was ready to start the recovery. Doctors weren't quite pleased about that though. So we started physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech. To date Cj is doing good. He is physical great. He does stumble at times with balance. He shows some muscle weakness, decreased motor activity, signs and symptoms involving cognition, headaches. Cj has been diagnosed with seizure activity and is currently on medication at this time. Over all we thank God he is here and alive and on his journey he met Jesus and was told he was waking him up from a coma. Still get chills hearing about how lucky and gifted he is to have met his maker. Jesus definitely has plans for CJ. Thank you for reading our story.
