City of Refugee Ministries in Ghana

Hello!  My name is Austin and I am fundraising for a mission’s trip to City of Refugee in Ghana.  It will be my third time interning with this organization in the last 3 years.  City of Refugee Ministries (CORM) is a anti human trafficking organization located in Shia Hills, Ghana.  Their mission is to educate and prevent child trafficking in the Lake region and on the ocean front region.  CORM is also a orphanage whose purpose is to raise these children and give them a Christian education. Their mission statement is broken into three parts; prevention, intervention, and restoration.  Prevention is done by empowering single mothers who are vulnerable to selling their children.  Intervention, many of the parents are not interested in taking these children back as they have no means of taking care of them. Other parents see their children as a source of income, so if their children were to be returned home, they could be sold again. We build relationship with the local community leaders to evoke the release of children currently enslaved in this region of Ghana. Finally restoration, The goal is to allow these children to have a childhood since so many of them come out of situations where they were working long hours on fishing boats or doing domestic chores. The children attend school during the day and in the evenings they are free to play.
