SUNSHINE ACTION – CHRISTMAS SUNSHINE FORTUNE BAGS 2021-2022

Back in 2019, when the COVID-19 pandemic developed into a global health emergency, many corporates lowered the scale of production, leading to a drop in revenue of up to 90% in many industries. Consequently, low-income groups were severely impacted as they were faced with economic adversities such as reduced job opportunities, unemployment, and wage cut. The devastation was also extended to the wider community as many families suffered from the loss of income.

Flash forward two years, in the last quarter of 2021, COVID-19 remains an unresolved issue, leading to many uncertainties around the world. In many Asian Countries surrounding Hong Kong, the daily number of new COVID-19 cases still stands at a high level, presumably due to the new variants. Economic activities remain immobilized especially in the sectors of retails and tourism. Worsening the situation, the cost of raw materials and logistics have skyrocketed in recent months. Together with, the fear of another mass outbreak of COVID-19 in winter, corporate investments are hindered and the economy is expected to undergo another downtown.

From NOW 2021 to FEB 2022, Sunshine Action is planning to prepare and donate 8'000 Christmas Sunshine Fortune Bags to address the social impact brought by the aggravating economic circumstances. Targeted to cooperate with 70-80 local charity centers, our project is expected to benefit around 9'000-12'000 people in Hong Kong directly. Beneficiaries of our project include:

• Low-income cases affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
• Poor elderly & severely sick patients including Cancer & HIV/AIDS
• Mentally ill and physically handicapped
• Single parents and new immigrants
• Asylum seekers & refugees

Similar to our usual practice, Sunshine Action makes every effort to lower operating costs and dedicates up to 95% of the donation to our beneficiaries through the supply of food and aids. Different from most other charities, the operation of Sunshine Action is entirely managed by our committed team of volunteers and Sunshine Ambassadors, allowing us to maintain low operating cost.
