Looks can be deceiving”

My friend Chrislene Tulabing is 20 years old and she lives in Cebu City, Philippines. She is cheerful and enthusiastic. She's a loving daughter. She’s smart for passing a great scholarship and for being an academic achiever. She’s talented. She won several chess tournaments and she usually excel in everything she does. She is a leader too! Above all, she’s passionate and God-centered for she has been serving the church as a choir member. She’s God’s gift to everyone. However, she may have the best of everything from talent and brain yet in life she doesn’t have it all. We have our own cross to carry and her cross is no lighter than ours. She looks fine most of the time. You can see her living her life like normal people do but behind her smiles are the pains only her can understand. It’s unbearable. I can tell because I have witnessed how she fight against that Liposarcoma, a rare type of cancer that begins in the fat cells.

We were second year high school back then. She was 14 that time when during our class, she felt a lump on the right side of her abdomen. She had CT scan and it was confirmed that it was a retroperitoneal mass. She was operated at that time and the mass was sent for biopsy. After two years, she was operated again with the same case. We were worried that time if she can make it on our graduation. But God’s will, she did actually graduate. She would have graduated with honors back then if it kweren’t because of her absences due to her medication and operation. Nonetheless, life goes on and time went by fast. She had a great scholarship for college back then but instead of enrolling to college, she had to stop first for she had to be operated again. She almost lost that scholarship but thankfully, she was given a chance to avail that scholarship for three years only. A year later, even with her condition she decided to go back to school. On 2017, she had radiation therapy but the cancer was still there. Also, chemotherapy wasn’t responsive on her case and no other treatment was advised except for surgery and monitoring every six months. Since surgery is the only option, she has a total of 8 operations already. As for these days, she already feel symptoms like difficulty of breathing and great pain in her stomach. She needs immediate operation and now with the expenses for her operation and medication, we are knocking on your good heart for help and donation.

She is a girl with great dreams yet she lost many opportunities due to her illness. She had an opportunity to pursue her passion in playing chess and be a key player in school but she lost it for she can’t make the heavy training and practices together with her studies. She would also want to continue being a choir yet for same reasons, she stopped. Most of all, she had lots of school-related opportunities yet she would need to refuse it for health reasons.

Your help and prayers would really be highly appreciated. May we help her win back the opportunities she lost, get a better normal life and continue her dreams.
