Children’s choir – let the kids be a light to the world

Is life of Jesus just an old time legend? No, it is not and we are trying our best to let the children of our parish get the chance to feel his love and care.

21st Century, Jesus church and our parish

We come from a small place in Croatia. Churches here are not nearly as full as they used to be. Today, it seems that money, power and sex are the only gods that many people know and need. Many never got the chance to learn to love Jesus, many forgot about him and many just don't care about those "medieval tales".

Looking at the age of church attendees, one has to wonder, how many people will be there in a 10 or 20 years time? Are there kids around to take the place of the elderly? Can we make it "interesting" for them to come?

Our mission

Well, it is not actually a mission. Just doing what we feel is right. Using that little spare time we do have to help bring the children of our parish a bit closer to the Jesus and his Church. To play and sing to Jesus.

In theory, it is easy to say: "Ok, let's build a choir!". In practice, we are a small community and we must try very hard to attract and inspire the kids. Quite often at school, they get laughed at or teased at (especially boys). You know how sensitive they are in those ages!

So, our "duty" was not just singing in the church. First, we had to actually find someone to sing! And make him stay with us, regardless of being teased at or laughed at! We had to make the kids feel at home when in the church. Spend some fun times there. Play hide and seek after rehearsals. Reward them every now and then for their efforts. Small things. For instance, we would go to some other parish to perform and then take them to a pizza or something.

What are the funds for?

To fulfill our "mission". To keep our choir together. To make the kids really feel at home and enjoy their time in church and in singing and praising Jesus. To give them a chance to get to know and feel his love.

Depending on the amount raised, the funds will be used:

• to finance travel expenses for our guest performances
• to buy musical instruments
• I hope you don't mind, but we would also like to allot a few percent of it for little joys - buying a pizza or an ice cream doesn't cost that much but makes the kids VERY happy!

Children are the future of the world

 Indeed they are. But the way they grow up will also shape that future.

We certainly hope for more, but should we help the seed of faith grow and flourish in only one child, I think we could all be happy and content with our achievements.
