Lose The dreads,  build a house instead!!
So what will you get if you sponsor me apart from the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you do a good deed??  You'll see me cut my dreads off!!!  Yes after 18 years I will finally get a real haircut...... but not until I reach my £2000 goal,or approx £3230 USD as this is a US website i'm using!!  To sweeten the deal, I'm offering the highest bidder the first chop of a dread of their choosing which will be lovingly gift wrapped or wall mounted, so it may be taken home and  enjoyed for years to come.  Also anyone donating over £100 will receive their very own dread to be used however they see fit i.e. fake moustaches, tv antennas, monobrows etc. So please dig deep my friends and spread the word.

The birth of Childrens Ark Ghana.

In 2010 my friend Corrie volunteered to work in an orphanage for disadvantaged children in Ghana. At that time there were only 2 women looking after 77+ children in the most appalling conditions. Even worse was that after subsequent visits, evidence of donations going 'missing' and mental and physical abuse towards the children became alarmingly apparent.  A small number of volunteers joined forces with a couple of trusted  Ghanaian women and started working on a long term project to build a new home for some of the children to live in/farm on.

Earlier this year when the number of children in the existing orphanage swelled to over 100, they were forced to act and some of the vulnerable children were moved into a temporary dwelling consisting of two small rooms, not ideal but at least they were now cared for, happy and above all safe.   Childrens Ark Ghana was then born.

They are now on the hunt for a plot to build a permanent home with enough land to farm to provide self-sustainability. Our next objective will be to get all the children sponsored to go to the local private school where they will get a decent education and two meals a day.  The state school does not feed them and provides very poor education and we feel sponsorship and their education is vital in giving them a better chance in the future.

I will be travelling over Feb/March to volunteer (all costs incurred by my trip will be met by myself) when the building commences.   I will be collecting clothing, shoes and toys before my trip so start saving singlets! Will send out details nearer the time.  If you are interested in sponsoring a child or volunteering yourself  please contact me.  We would especially welcome tradesman to help with the buildings works early next year!!

Thanks in advance and please spread the word!

P.S.   Children's Ark Ghana has a page on Facebook!  If you could show your support by finding their page and clicking on the "like" icon it would be much appreciated.  There is loads of wonderful photos of the children and information on our progress!!

P.S.   PLEASE NOTE AS THIS IS A U.S SITE THAT WHEN YOU ARE ASKED HOW MUCH YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE IT WILL BE RECORDED AS USD SO YOU MAY WISH TO USE A CASH CONVERTOR TO WORKED OUT ACTUAL AMOUNT IN YOUR CURRENCIES, £££ OR NZ$ ETC.   HERE IS SOME APPROX AMOUNTS TO GO BY
 £5 = US$8       £20 =  US$32.30       £25 =  US$40.30
 NZ$5 = US$4    NZ$20 =  US$16        NZ$25 =  US$20
