Children at Risk

I am fundraising for my niece Sasha Botha who is currently in South Africa, where she is doing some training at YWAM Muizenberg, to become a missionery. As part of her journey to help people in need, she is looking at doing an additional course with the YWAM Team to work with Children at Risk in South Africa and the African continent. Sasha has a deep passion to help children that are living in extreme poverty, who have lost their parents to either crime or HIV/Aids, or who they themselves are dying of HIV/Aids. These helpless children see no future ahead of them, and find it very difficult to live on. Sasha sees herself, in many of those children to a degree, having no parents of her own, and she herself used to feel that her life had no purpose or meaning. That all changed when she met her pastor at the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Hamilton, NZ. She was introduced to the opportunity of doing a DTS course (Discipleship Training Course), which gave her a new outlook on her own life and journey. She is currently volunteering at the YWAM base and will be starting her DTS course at the end of March. As part of her growing and gaining opportunities to make something of her life, and make a difference to many children around the world, Sasha was introduced to a course offered by YWAM known as Children at Risk. YWAM Muizenberg will be offering the Children at Risk School in order to train workers to initiate and maintain projects of working with Children at Risk, their families and communities.

The course in total runs for 3 months, and after the 3 months, she will be able to apply for an internship with any YWAM centre around the world where she can go out into the communities and help and assist children in need.

Numerous African children living in extreme poverty are at high risk of being exploited and trafficked for labor. A child accidentally slices his hand open with a machete while opening cocoa pods on a plantation in Ghana. A young teenage girl, trafficked for the sex industry, walks the beaches of Mombasa in Kenya looking for business. A young boy squats naked in a mineshaft in Burkina Faso, chipping ore and loading it into buckets all day long. A child soldier in the Democratic Republic of Congo carries an automatic weapon he was forced to use to kill villagers he knew.

For as little as NZ$10, you could be helping Sasha fulfill her passion, her desire, to attend this Children at Risk course, and help her to go out and help as many lost and abandoned children as she possibly can.
