In July, I have the gratifying opportunity to travel to Columbia to volunteer with IVHQ (You can learn more about them at www.volunteerhq.org/about-us/). I will be attending a childcare program where I will be working alongside local professionals and volunteers from all across the globe to help provide attention, nourishment, and education to the children of local working families. I am excited to play with and serve the Columbian children, while experiencing some of the culture and customs of the country.
Over the last year and a half I have been fortunate to volunteer with Metropolitan Ministries here in Florida, as my best friend’s sister is an employee there through Americorp. I have helped feed the Floridian homeless at local food kitchens, and assisted in holiday toy drives. It is always an amazing and rewarding experience to be able to serve and assist others.
Traveling to Columbia to volunteer with IVHQ is a great way for me to combine my passions for travel and humanitarianism. It is an honor to be able to journey to a new country and experience the sites, sounds, and foods of the culture, while also being able to give back to the local community.
The monetary aspect of the program is completely self-funded. While the hours I spend in the program will count toward the completion of my community service capstone, no financial aid is offered from either my school or IVHQ. July 14th-21st I will be on my way to Columbia to take part in this rewarding experience, but I cannot do it without you. Any monetary contributions, support, and prayers you can provide are greatly appreciated.
