Hello! We are a team of 4 students from Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information in NTU and we're producing a documentary about child sponsorships in Southeast Asia for our final year project. Your support would mean so so much to us. Every bit counts!

THE STORY

Follow a child sponsor of 26 years as he journeys to meet his sponsored child in Antique, Philippines for the very first time. Meanwhile, an ex-teacher turned independent child sponsor reconnects with her sponsored children in a small Indonesian fishing village after years. As both sponsors navigate the delicate relationships and effects of their contributions, this documentary explores how such ventures actually benefit their intended recipients.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Director - Caitlin

"One thing that I want to convey through our documentary is the fact that these are very real people that don’t need our pity and are no less than us. I’ve seen that mentality in missions I’ve done in East Timor & hope that through our objective lens, people can be encouraged by their stories."

Producer - Megan

"The idea of child sponsorship was taught to me from a young age. Starting from 1997, my father has been a sponsor parent of 12 children over the past 25 years. Hence, I hope to see for myself, and show through our documentary, if these years of sponsorship actually made a difference in the children’s lives."

DOP - Shi Ching

"Personally, I’ve been sceptical of child sponsorship programmes and thus, have stayed away from them. Through this project, I wish to discover the legitimacy and efficacy of such programmes, providing myself and the public with insight on whether it is worth contributing such causes."

Sound/Editor - Anne

"Over the years I’ve heard many people approach the topic of child sponsorship skeptically – I hope to bring clarity to this topic by unpacking the process and impact of child sponsorship despite the “lack” of personal connection to the sponsored children."

WHY DO WE NEED CROWDFUNDING?

It has been incredibly difficult to secure government or private grants in Singapore as our documentary's main beneficiaries are children outside of Singapore - in different parts of Southeast Asia. However, we chose to commit to making this film completely self-funded as we strongly believe that the voices of these children need to be heard. Through this filmmaking journey, we have witnessed firsthand the impact that child sponsorships can have on the lives of these children, and we want to share this experience with the world.

Please help us help them share their stories. Your contribution will go a big way in helping us cover:

  • Production costs (Insurance, equipment rental)
  • Transport and logistics
  • Post-production fees
  • Locations

Truly, every little bit counts. If you are able to, please support us, and help us share this page with your family and friends. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
