Our little flock has suffered massive losses the past months due to predators. We started out withabout 25 bought and donated chickens 2 years ago. Some were old, some were newly hatched, but all were loved. Our little coop is made up of a chain link dog pen and some tin roofing and is in MAJOR need of renovation to keep out the predators. It was very old when we got it, with most of the chicken wire that was previously placed on it rusting.

The last straw was the loss of our beloved little rooster in the picture right before Christmas. He was tucked safely in the coop when I heard a commotion about 10:30 on night. I took the spotlight out and saw that he was gone. Found feathers in the roost but not him. There was an eave vent right above where he roosted and I still do not know what got him. He was the last to be taken, and the one that is the most missed.

As with most, we have bills and are just above water. Even saving for this will take a very long time. Our first grandson was born in May being 9.5 weeks premature and we are trying to help our oldest daughter to pay his medical bills (he was in NICU for about 4 weeks). I stay home and watch him while she works part time.

We are not concerned with breeding or showing, just having the little birds that we love so well.
I would love to be able to provide my new grandson with the chance to be raised with a small flock, as I am my children were. Compassion, responsibility and sustainability are much needed lessons and more important than ever.

Our main focus is on obtaining a reliable incubator to be able to hatch eggs and to provide a safe, sturdy home for the flock.

We have set a goal of $600. We feel that this would provide the funds for the incubator, building material and purchase of hatching eggs. In addition, it will be put toward feed, bedding and other necessities. I have also set a cap on the amount. If we are fortunate enough to reach our goal, that is it. No more donations will be accepted. We are not asking for a hand out, just a hand up.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Blessings from our family to yours,

Amanda
