Campaign Story
2 years ago, April 25, 2011 our home in Vilonia, Arkansas was hit by an EF3 tornado. We rode out the storm with our daugher and our puppy in our hallway coat closet. Since then we have been trying to save money for a tornado shelter without much luck. Our daughter Cheyenne was 7 years old at the time of the tornado and was traumatized so badly that now when the tornado sirens go off she stands in place and starts crying hysterically please don't let me die over and over again. Sometimes I have to actually pick her up to get her in the closet or in the car to try to outrun the storm. We only did that once, this year on the same Thursday that the storm chasers died in their car in El Reno, Oklahoma. We too were having the sirens go off and thought we had actually drove into the storm versus away from the storm. Our car was hydroplaning and all you colud see was horizontal rain when the lightening flashed. We made it safely to a friends house 8 miles away to stay in their shelter. We are trying so hard to raise the money needed for this shelter so we can be safe during these tornados and to give our daughter some peace of mind that she is not going to die when the sirens go off. I work 2 jobs and my husband puts in overtime but life keeps getting in our way. Things breaking done, medical issue coming up etc., so any help you could provide will be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your love, help, support and kindness. Blessings to all. Kim Barton
