CHES – Volunteer Mental Health Supports

Our team at Calgary Housing & Employment Services have been working over the past year to help people transitioning out of homelessness gain the tools and skills necessary to successfully achieve their individual goals.

One of our main programs is our Supported Employment Program, which provides training, skills building, job coaching, and job placements. As part of our Supported Employment Program (SEP) our agency wants to provide Clinical Mental Health Support to our clients moving from homelessness back into the labour market. Your donations will go directly to ensuring our clients get the specific support they need.

SEP clients are formerly homeless individuals, who often struggle with mental health and addiction issues, in addition to coping with the trauma of living on the streets. After stabilized in housing first programs, our clients graduate from a five month Life & Essential Skills program and are now ready to begin looking for jobs within the community.  

However, this final step in an individual's journey into independent living comes with a lot of stress and anxiety. Providing employment-related counselling to our clients gives them the support they need, and allows them to retain their work placements for the foreseeable future.  

We want to begin providing this support to our new cohort of SEP clients by June 1st and have already located three Registered Provisional Pyschologists to volunteer 22-26 hours a month for this specific mental health counselling.  

We need to cover the costs associated with providing insurance to these amazing donors, at $500 per year.
