On Wednesday 13th July, during the afternoon, Chea Vorns house in Banlung, Ratanakiri, Cambodia was totally destroyed by a fire. Thankfully nobody was hurt but Vorn, his wife and two children have lost everything they own. They only have the clothes they stand up in. The house also contained his wife’s seamstress business and all her stock and fabrics. In a tragedy that started in the next door house Vorn has lost all of his life’s work. In Cambodia there I no household insurance or compensation.
Vorn has been central to the United World Schools (UWS) family in Cambodia since 2010. He was one of the first staff to be employed as an Education Officer on the formation of UWS and his hard work, loyalty and inspiration has helped to guide many other less experienced UWS staff. Above all he has enabled 1000’s of children to go to school in Ratanakiri and receive a good education. It is indeed no exaggeration to say that without his early help UWS would never have grown so quickly and with such success. He acted as the link between the government authorities and the charity enabling mutual respect to flourish and for schools to be built.
Vorn, who has helped so many people, now needs help himself. Chris Howarth the UWS Founder and Nan Sitha UWS Country Director are seeking ways to support Vorn and his family.
