I am volunteering in Fiji, to achieve government backed Youth and Sports Development. The project is run by the Think Pacific Foundation (Charity Number FJ 989). I will be living in a remote and traditional community on Fiji's island Viti Levu and I will be teaching small group lessons and organising one-to-one tuition, providing health advocacy, pioneering extra-curricular activities and youth clubs and implementing grass roots sports coaching and daily PE classes in rural schools. I am doing this project for a month and believe it will be incredibly rewarding.
I am also volunteering in Ghana with Plan My Gap Year (PMGY). PMGY’s Medical volunteers programme in Ghana offers a fantastic opportunity to gain first-hand experience and insight into the Ghanian health care system. The healthcare system in Ghana still faces a number of challenges, particularly in rural areas. The large majority of patients arrive due to illnesses related to poor sanitation. Malaria is also a huge issue and remains the cause of many deaths and illnesses. In addition, HIV/AIDS continues to harm the lives of so many Ghanaians. Many of the major causes of death and serious illness are avoidable. This will be a very rewarding experience especially for my future career.
I am really looking forward to both of these projects, but I need to fundraise money to pay for the programme fees and provide equipment for the different experiences. Any donation is greatly appreciated and we really help my trips. Thank you very much.
