Changemakers Member in Medical Distress

Here is an UPDATE (Sorry, I can put videos only here in this form, not in the Updates:

Our Volunteer Community (http://bit.ly/ChangemakersManila) has suffered a blow.
One of our members got very sick and we are the ones now in need of help. Medical costs have to be covered.

Angelica or "Gellie" as many call her, had experienced chronic, severe UTI (Urinal Tract Infection) for around a year according to her friends. Apparently that has led to massive kidney problems. On Dec. 18 she got a fever and suffered from pain till she was admitted in Dec. 26 to Las Pinas Medical Center.

She was then transferred to Jose Reyes Hospital due to the financial situation and is there now in the ICU (intensive care unit) and treated for her blood infection. Apparently her other organs are also affected. She has severe lung and heart problems and a mechanical ventilator has been installed since Jan. 5 to assist her breathing. Apparently the doctors had to already perform several Cardiopulmonary resuscitations (CPR).

HER SITUATION IS LIFE THREATENING!

Angelica is now a charity patient -- meaning the basic cost for Jose Reyes Hospital is paid by the government. It is our burden now to pay medicines, medical apparatus, lab test and the mechanical ventilator (which are not available at that hospital). These are our major expenses along with the previous bills.

Friends and members of the Changemakers Manila are shouldering the immediate impact, but we are unable to do so alone - especially with the open bills from the previous hospital.

In her last Facebook post Angelica wrote:

"Lesson learned: Not you feel anything wrong you are OK. Still PREVENTION is better than cure. Have a regular medical check up may be available in your Barangay or any Medical Mission organized by private sectors. Cover yourself by investing in Life Insurance (Im not an insurance agent) or invest in annHMO or medicard plan."

We all know these times in our life when we thought AFTERWARDS how much better we could have done BEFORE. Please think of this before you judge or refer to a health plan.

We now try to save a life and we can do this -- together.

When the Internations Volunteer Group was renamed worldwide to "The Changemakers" I felt shy and thought that this is such a great word for the small things we use to do (Home for the Elderly, Orphanage visits etc.).

Today, every one of the 920 members from 82 countries AND everyone elseout there who can spare acouple of dollar, Euro, Peso, can be a REAL CHANGEMAKER -- and help changing the situation of our dear member Angelica.

Angelica wrote in that same post:

Angelica was not only a member of the Changemakers,
also of 28 other groups.
She has been a member of InterNations for 3 years
has attended 52 events - in different countries

Chances are high that YOU know her or met her already.

The small and the big donations will make the same difference. It is not about how much you can give (our minimum is 300 PHP, which is the equivalent of less than 6 Dollar or just 5 EUR) - it is the unanimous act of a group which consists of people who claimed when they joined that they want to volunteer. NOW is your chance to do so!

And I ask you more than just donating your part NOW -- I ask you to ask your friends, post it, share it on Facebook and make every move in your reach to help.

Those who are religious among you I will ask to pray, those who are spiritual I will ask to send their good vibrations, thoughts, karmas. Include her now every day in your prayers and meditations - and feel the warmth that you are in spirit with so many others who care for the biggest thing in life -- ONE LIFE.
