Chace Family Fund

On Tuesday, July 2nd, Mike and Charito Chace received word that their 3 year old son, Ben, has Leukemia. His bone marrow test came back to confirm the diagnosis of T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Mike and Charito have two wonderful children. Mac is five years old and Ben is three. For those of you who are not close to the Chace family, I would like to share their challenges. Mac was diagnosed with Autism a couple of years ago. Mac is receiving applied behavior analysis therapy also known as A.B.A. Therapy 3 x per week. Mac has made progress with the help of his therapies. He should be getting speech therapy as well, however neither one of these therapies are covered under insurance. Mike and Charito have to pay for all of Mac's therapies out of pocket. They had to discontinue Mac's speech therapy because of all the expenses.The Chace family is very strong, however, Ben’s leukemia diagnosis is just devastating. Mike and Charito rely on their two incomes and on close family members to support their family. You can only imagine the thoughts and feelings Mike and Charito felt when Ben was diagnosed with Leukemia. A child with Leukemia will also have special needs beyond his medical treatments. Ben will not be able to have regular contact with other children during treatment, and for several months after, due to his sensitivity to germs. His immune system is severely compromised from Leukemia and will be further compromised from Chemotherapy treatments, which have begun today, July 5, 2013. Complete treatment will take 2-3 years. Ben’s mother, Charito, has taken a leave of absence from work to provide care and supervision for Ben while he gets the treatment he needs. The Chace family will now rely solely on Mike’s income and generous donations to care for his family throughout Ben’s fight against Luekemia. Mac’s special needs will not change. During this time, Mac will continue to need his A.B.A. therapy 3x a week that he has received in the past.  Ben’s diagnosis of Leukemia has put a tremendous emotional and  financial burden on the Chace family.
