Nobody would have ever thought that a medical school exchange program for four weeks in Tanzania would have lead to all of this.

We embarked on a journey where we learned about the meaning of compassion, the importance of giving, and the feeling of whole-hearted commitment to each and every child at Msamaria Center for Street Children.

When Giusi and Claire first arrived at the Center, it was quite by accident. They stumbled upon it and once they entered through those gates, their hearts were captured. They spent almost every day playing and getting to know each kid personally. These relationships that they built flourished and lead to a feeling of the need to do something more.

In getting to know these children, they realized how deep the need was for medical, nutritional, emotional, educational, and spiritual support.

It was when they realized this that an idea for a fundraiser was born. So many people showed their support and trust for what they were doing, and thanks to such generous donations, they were able to buy every single kid, all 42 children, a school uniform, new shoes, and an embroidered backpack with their names. They were able to make a day of it where they cooked the children a meal to fill their little tummies.

All of this was only possible with the help of a local Tanzanian medical student named Cuthbert. He believed in Giusi and Claire and he believed in their mission to help these children.

So three medical students from such different backgrounds and countries (Claire from the US, Giusi from Italy, and Cuthbert from Tanzania), but a similar heart to help these children, started thinking of how they could continue to help support the children at Msamaria even after Giusi and Claire left Tanzania. The vision was further broadened to so many other children in the numerous orphanages of Tanzania that also were in dire need of support.

And so from this was the conception of the CGC Foundation, a project in which we believe in investing in the next generation of Tanzanians and providing them with the support and love that they deserve.
