C’era’s Mission in Uganda

My name is C’era Reece, and I have been blessed with the opportunity to be a part of a mission trip to Uganda in November.Please take a minute to read about my story and consider helping this wonderful cause! What I'll Be Doing In Uganda:

While working with The Vine Village in Uganda I will be able to directly serve the women and children. I will be helping to feed those in the community, teaching the gospel, and bringing the community closer to God. I will work in the Vine Baby Cottage where I will help care for the babies, and we will also travel to the Nile River where we will baptize those who want to give their lives to Christ.

The Vine Village's Purpose:

Women empowerment:

Working closely with women, our primary role is teaching women to be self-sustaining and confident in their ability to function within the Ugandan economy and to provide for the needs of their family. Women in the villages work together to rear livestock and plant banana trees to sell at the market and keep some to sustain their families. Women in the Village are taught to tailor so they can make purses and jewelry to sell also.

Children:

At The Vine Uganda, our dream is to have a place where children can learn, grow, and thrive in life! Every day 3 out of 5 babies and children are abandoned. The Vine is a safe haven for infants and children looking for a place to call home. The Vine stays with a child as they grow up; providing for their educational, medical, and spiritual needs.

Once a child is identified and brought into The Vine Children’s Sponsorship Program, they are placed in a classroom full-time. The Vine provides a quality primary education for the children of Kamuli that attend as day students. We also provide a home for “student orphans” who reside at The Vine while receiving an education and the security of a loving home.

Each month The Vine impacts 560 children!!!

Spiritual Discipleship:

The Vine provides spiritual outreach to residents of Kamuli and the surrounding villages. They provide spiritual care through mentoring, discipleship, the local church, baptism, conferences and prayer. Annually, large outreach events are hosted where hundreds of people gather to hear God’s Word explained by Pastors and Speakers. These outreaches feature teaching, medical care, worship, hygiene clinics and prayer.

Facts About Uganda:

• Uganda has the youngest population in the world with vulnerable women raising an average of 6-7 children on their own.
• The number of abandoned children has doubled in recent years and the communities have no way to respond to the crisis.
• Polygamy and the scourge of AIDS have created problems for the women of Uganda. Often, vulnerable women are left as the sole providers for multiple children—with little or no resources to provide for those in their care.

My WHY:

I strongly believe that my purpose in life is serving others. When I was little, my dream was to become a pediatrician because I wanted to help others who were in need, especially children. After high school, I worked as a CNA in a nursing home which led me eventually to home health care. Working with hospice patients was without a doubt the most touching and transformative experience for me. Being able to make an impact in someone’s life during their last, and sometimes worst, days, was something that undoubtedly changed my perspective on life drastically. I witnessed first hand that my biggest concerns in life were so small compared to what others could be dealing with in their lives. I feel very strongly that this is an ideal I want to share with the world, and I believe, based on past experience, that a mission trip would be an amazing way to do so.

In 5th grade, my family and I went on a disaster relief mission trip where we helped those impacted by hurricane Katrina. This was a life changing time for me and something I will never forget. Seeing families living out of tents in scorching hot weather, homes completely destroyed, families lined up for help, and many in desperate need for a blessing are memories that are forever etched into my mind, as again, I realized how blessed I have been in my life. I want to share my blessings with those who are without, giving my time and energy to hopefully bless them opportunities that they may not have had.
