Fundraiser for Cecile's Above-the-Knee Amputation, Hospitalization, and Post-operative Recovery Expenses (e.g. wheelchair, prosthesis, post-amputation transportation to and from out-patient dialysis center)

A pleasant day to each and every one of you,

My name is Cecile Alvarez, 42 years old, from Lemery Batangas, Philippines. I am currently recovering in the hospital, following the sudden above-the-knee amputation of my left leg.

I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease 3 years ago. I have been undergoing hemodialysis regularly since then. On the first week of November 2021, I had noticed pain and bruising on my left calf and foot. I decided to seek medical consult, upon which I was diagnosed with peripheral arterial occlusive disease in both of my legs. I was told that the pain and brusing was caused by decreased blood flow to my legs, due to the narrowing of and buildup of plaque in my leg arteries. The bruising on my left calf eventually turned into a full-blown ulcer, which eventually healed following a course of antibiotics. Unfortunately, the pain and bruising never went away completely. On the last week of December 2021, I was advised to undergo endarterectomy (removal of blockages in my leg arteries) for both of my legs, and peripheral artery artificial bypass graft for my left leg, in order to restore blood flow. Things were going well at first, but 8 days after the operation, I had unfortunately developed mild COVID-19 symptoms, which had probably contributed to the development of a blood clot in the newly inserted artificial bypass graft. At this point, my left leg was now too far gone to be saved, which is why my doctor advised me to have it amputated, before an infection develops in it and spreads throughout the rest of my body.

Our family has already exhausted most of our funds covering my endarterectomy and bypass graft, and we are already on our last legs trying to pay for the mounting hospital bills for my amputation and hospitalization.

Up until recently, I have spent most of my life caring for my aging mother and my special needs nephew. Please help me get better, so I can get back to them, in time for my birthday on January 29.

Any amount of financial assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much, and God bless.
