ANIMALS IN DISTRESS:

UPDATE ON THE 14 FERALS:

14.04.21 Update on progress

I thought it is appropriate to let each person that has so far kindly donated to this cause know how we are progressing.

We initially trapped 6 cats, had them sterilized at the Vet in Potchefstroom. They were given all their injections and relocated to to the farm where they are currently settling in very well.

We then trapped 4 mommy cats that gave birth to 4 kittens. The mommy cats have also been sterilized and will be relocated tomorrow to their new home joining the 6 previously relocated.

The 4 kittens I raised up to 6 weeks and have gone to suitable homes.

We still are to trap 3 more cats, get them sterilized and relocated.

Unfortunately 14th cat we were supposed to trap was found on the current property but was sadly not alive. This has created even more of an urgency to complete this project.

I visited the relocation farm today to make sure the cats have clean blankets and their houses and that they are well. I made sure they have enough food for the month and that all the drinking spots were filled with fresh water.

I will upload some new photos during this week.

A further update will be posted once all the cats have been relocated.

There is still an outstanding amount for work done so far at the vet of R2700. Donors are welcome to donate directly into the Vets account. The details have been uploaded in one of the pictures.

Lastly, I would like to thank each person that has found it in their hearts to donate to this cause. Thank you to the people who are still going to donate. This act of kindness is unmeasurable.

Original Post.

This outcry is to all animal lovers.

My name is Maryka Iconomou residing in Klerksdorp South Africa.

Upon moving into my place I quickly learnt that there were some cats and kittens on the plot behind my place that were living in extremely poor conditions.

They living amongst rubble and garden refuse. They are very thin and uncared for.

I started feeding them daily and put down a few houses with blankets for them to have some sort of shelter.

The owner of the plot is not a cat lover. He has explicitly told me that he does not want the cats on his property. I have permission to feed the cats morning and night until we can get them relocated.

I have managed to seek the assistance of a veterinarian in Potchefstroom Dr Van der Merwe who is able to assist in neutering all the feral cats. She will also give them a rabies injection and deworm them all.

Before Dr Van der Merwe can assist, we have to trap the cats. There is a registered and professional trapping consultant that will assist me with this and it will take a few consecutive evenings to trap all the cats. She has strict rules she has to follow as she is a member of animal rescue.
After the entire process of trapping and neutering the cats will be relocated to a farm nearby.

I can't do all this without your help. I am begging you to do it for these animals. Please donate to a good cause that will give these cats a fighting chance.

For any queries, I am able to furnish anyone with the veterinarian as well as the professional trappers contact details. I just don't want to put their personal details on social media.

Costs -

Vet - R4600 (app 310 Dollars)

Professional Trapper - R2000 (app 134 Dollars)

Fuel to Potchefstroom to take them for sterilisation and collection. This also to relocate them in groups to the new premises. Food and any necessities during trapping over about a 2 month period - R400 (27 Dollars)

Total - R7000 (app 467 Dollars)

We have started the process already on borrowed costs. It is immense work to trap, keep them with me until we have trapped at least 4, then sterilise the group. Get them recovered with me and then relocate them once ready.

There are also 4 new born kittens that have not been able to be relocated with mom because they are too small. I have been looking after them until they are at least 6 weeks and eating. Some of the kittens have pneumonia and have also been treated.

Thank you for reading my story, thank you for caring. Any assistance will be appreciated. Money can also be paid into the vets account.

I have included photos of the vets letter with her details on. I have also included the premises they are currently staying in and an aerial view of where they will be relocated to.

I have also included a few picture of the trapped cats. Unfortunately most trapping happens at night and the pictures are not that clear.
