We have recently been informed that my father has Cataracts on a very severe level. A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. Cataracts often develop slowly and can affect one or both eyes. Symptoms may include faded colors, blurry or double vision, halos around light, trouble with bright lights, and trouble seeing at night. His left eye is the worst between the two and if surgery is not completed soon will result in blindness. His right eye is not as dire but still needs to be attended to before it gets to the same point. The surgery he requires is very urgent. The total cost for surgery on both eyes would be R30000.00. We do however need to raise R15000.00 by end of February in order to save the left eye. He is taking care of my 1-year old son during the day when my wife and I are working.I am currently working 2 jobs to provide for my family and things are tight as it is.
The Report from the Optometrists is readily available for anyone who would like to view it.
