Campaign Story
This is our Island cat rescue. The rescue presently has 54 cats and a huge debt which is putting them at risk of closing down. This fundraiser is hoping to pay off the debt and give them enough money to pay for food for 3 months...hopefully enough to keep them open.
Street cats have become a symbol of Croatia, and whether you find them fishing on the coast, in bins, or enjoying a bit of ‘fjaka’ on an ancient stone wall, you’ll be hard-pressed to miss one while you're here. The thing is, Croatian are not really "pet people" (although that is changing) so cats live mostly outdoors, are rarely sterilized and are certainly not cared for. Many are sick and injured and never get treatment.
If you go to MayaCat FB page (https://www.facebook.com/MayaCatRescue) you will see Mila & Lidija have a patron in Germany who is working very hard to get the cats adopted. However covid has brought that to a stop. Donations from Germany have stopped and requests for adoption have also stopped, which is why they now have 54 cats.
A common misconception among pet adopters as well as the community at large, is that animal shelters are funded by tax payer dollars and adoption fees. However, unless the shelter in question is run by, or has a deal with the municipality, most don't receive government funding... MayaCat Rescue is no different.
It would be a tragedy for this Rescue to shut down! If we could get 8000 people to donate 1€ we would meet our goal... but feel free to donate more ;)
Thank you in advance for any help you can give!

I have seen the rampant problem of stray cats along the coast of Croatia. I like reading that Mayacat has a catch-neuter-return policy, that definitely helps. God bless the German woman who is doing her best to get these cat adopted. I hope Croatian attitudes change towards pets soon.

I foster cats in Canada and I always know they will find a home. Sadly it is no the same here. Sometimes helping shelters in other countries means more then it would in your own country. I hope this donation helps. Thanks for organizing this fundraiser.
