My name is Cassandra Da Cruz and I am a recent chemical engineering graduate from UCT with a passion for social entrepreneurship. I have been accepted into the UCT Graduate School of Business’s MPhil in Inclusive Innovation programme for 2019 but have not been able to obtain any formal funding.
I started Dadewethu, a women’s sexual health company, in my second year in 2016. Through Dadewethu, I have helped hundreds of girls with sexual health questions and reporting assaults. We also sell sanitary products and pregnancy tests to students and use the profits to supply the same products to women who cannot afford it. (Here’s an article from my time in UCT Upstarts and our website: https://www.news.uct.ac.za/article/-2016-09-16-uct-upstarts-students-to-re-educate-education, https://dadewethu.com).
I was not able to obtain any formal funding for my undergraduate degree and managed to raise this using crowdfunding and a generous donor in 2015. Unfortunately, I am in the same predicament again (and am not able to obtain a loan for my Masters as I do not have any surety.)
Social entrepreneurship is more than my passion, it gives me a reason to get up in the morning. I would love to be part of this cohort as it would give me many resources to further increase the positive impact Dadewethu has had on society.
Please feel free to get in contact with me or ask any questions! My email address is [email protected] and my phone number: +27 79 899 6192.
The amount I am fundraising for is just to cover my tuition costs and does not include any living expenses for the year yet.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me!
