David and I have always wanted to get married and, for us, even distance is not a barrier. I'm studying for a postgraduate degree in the UK while he lives in Nigeria. We have decided to get married in November, since I still have at most two years of study in the UK. We decided he would apply for a visitors visa to come back to the UK with me after the wedding and then a 'spouse' visa afterwards.
However, this week we learnt about changes to the visa application process coming into effect in November that means each of us has to have up to £7605 in our accounts for a number of days to get a 'spouse' visa. To beat this, we have to apply for the spouse before the deadline and we were thinking I would just travel down in September for some days for a court wedding and he could apply then.
Now there's another roadblock, flight fares for that period are about £1000 and given the other financial commitments we have made for the wedding in November, there is no way we can afford this! What it means is that, since I have to return to the UK soon after the wedding, we will be apart for months, assuming we even manage to apply just before the deadline in November.
Obviously, this is giving us both a lot of concern and I have decided to give this forum a go to see if we can raise some money for the flight to Nigeria for the court wedding and for part of the maintenance funds we would need for our accounts (currently £920 each).
Your help will be GREATLY appreciated.
