Carter’s Camping Dream

Carter's Camping Dream:

Carter is an inquisitive tween with brilliant blue eyes and the spirit of a champion. Unfortunately, he has spent much of his 12-years fighting for his life. Carter was born with mitochondrial disorder, which is a debilitating, progressive condition that impacts all of his major organs. Since infancy, Carter’s body and brain have been wrecked with seizures, frequent pneumonias, broken bones, frequent hospitalizations, and multiple surgeries. He uses a specialized wheelchair full-time, has a g-tube for feeding, and requires supplemental oxygen at all times. Because of the mitochondrial disorder, his muscles are very week. He is unable to hold his head up, swallow effectively, sit on his own, talk or walk.

Fortunately, Carter is not just defined by his medical issues. He loves meeting new people and trying new things, especially since his health has stabilized some over the last few years. He really likes swimming and being outdoors. But, being involved in outdoor activities can be very hard. His wheelchair can’t handle most unpaved surfaces, so he often gets left behind. When he was smaller, family members could carry him, but that is no longer safe (for him or for them).

Our goal is to help Carter realize his dream of great outdoor adventures! We really want to modify his wheelchair, but it is very expensive. The new wheelchair will enable him to get out and PLAY! We greatly appreciate your support.
