Carol’s India Trek

Hi I am off to India for a month in May to teach nursing students English in Pudukottai Southern India. This is a voluntary position and I need to pay for my flight,board and incidentals whilst I am out there.  I shall be working for the NGO The Indian Social Service Institute whilst I am there. This charity was set up in the 1980s to help impovrished people become self sufficiant by giving them education and training in needed skills. The charity pays for the training of student nurses in the area without this charity the students would not be able to access the training required as it is too expensive for them. I will be teaching the students English which is required as part of their studies. There are many people in India below the poverty line and this charity enables them to enhance there aspirations. I will also benefit greatly from this experience. At present I am studying for a degree in English and History and I eventually hope to teach English as a foreign language either voluntarily or as a paid position. What is more unusual is that I am not a young student I am 50 years old! I have had to think long and hard about whether I could do this trip with my family commitments. I have decided that I can and now only need to raise the money. I do hope you will be able to help.
