This Christmas, we'll be making sure that 1,500 children have a gift to open and a giving a proper meal to more than 300 families
Will you help us?
For more than 10 years, Monica, Carlos and their family have hosted special Christmas events for families in Santa Marta, Colombia that are in need. Monica is a teacher and organizes a yearly series of holiday events. She has reached thousands of children and families, making sure that they have a place to celebrate Christmas with gifts and food.
For many children, it is the only Christmas present that they will receive.Whatever gift, big or small, can make a difference:
$5 will buy a gift for a child between 1 and 12 years old -- like a soccerball, a stuffed animal or doll.
$15 will provide a meal for a family with seafood, pasta, sauce, cookies and coffee, as well as oil and sugar.
$30 will provide a meal and gifts for a family of five.
We have a base, but there is more to do! Since last year the neighborhood has grown very rapidly because of a new housing project. We know that there will be more children and families than ever before and we need help to be able to buy gifts for the children and a dinner for all of the families in need.
Thank you in advance! We'll be posting regular updates to let you know how the Christmas preparations are going.
We wish you a very happy holiday season, however you'll be celebrating!Laura

Update posted by Laura Collier at 04:50 pmFor the second pre-Christmas community celebration, there were 600 children participating -- all listening to Christmas stories, singing carols and having fun together! We're expecting at least double that on Christmas eve for the big day and Monica will be leading the "novenas" all week to get the kids and

Update posted by Laura Collier at 03:54 pmIn Colombia, there are traditionally 9 days of celebration before Christmas called "novenas". Monica has started the novenas with the community and the kids have started getting into the holiday mood with songs, games and even a living nativity scene! Thanks to everyone who has already given. We've reached more
