Campaign Story
Caribbean Coffee LLC
In 2019 there are still food institutions that racially profile people of African descent. This discrimination creates more fractures in the community the institutions are situated in and seek to provide a service to. Discrimination is caused by implicit bias that are formed from stereotyping people of diverse backgrounds and a lack of proper interaction with culturally diverse groups. To undo these implicit biases and heal the wounds that systemic inequities have causes communities of color, it is paramount to spread the culture of underrepresented ethnic groups. Even in the melting pot of New York City, the lack of cultural representation has become a prevalent issue that needs to be systematically address. Over the past 5 year, New York City, which has one of the highest population of migrants Caribbean peoples in the country, has started to see a change in demographics. This change in demographics has begun to displace people, and the culture that comes along with them. To address the displacement and lack of representation of Caribbean culture, this business plan proposes to create a coffee shop called Caribbean Coffee LLC a Caribbean themed coffeehouse, whose purpose is to address systemic inequities by spreading authentic Caribbean culture, art, history through food and community throughout the greater New York City area. Caribbean Coffee will become a space for members of the community to meet, interact, learn and enjoy delicious coffee, drinks and pastries, while immersing themselves in Caribbean culture.
