Please help cover carer costs for 92yr stroke survivor Josie
I am raising funds to pay for carers for my luvvverly stroke mum
My dad passed away when I was 10 and Mum worked hard to ensure I would always have a home and roof over my head.
In 2016 mum suffered a major severe stroke deemed at the time to be unsurvivable.
She could not walk and was sent to a resthome. But because we had our own home mum could get no funding. I used all my savings to cover the fees. If Dad (being the spouse) was still in house we could elect to not include it and we would have than got funding. The same doesn't apply to mother and daughter despite us being in same house for 40 years.
A few weeks after Mums stroke the Kaikoura quake struck.
Although in Wellington, our house suffered some foundation damage to part of the house which is still to be corrected and slopes downwards in one corner. We have some cracks in walls due to this and internal damage. We are still fighting the claim on this to get resolved.
However Mum tought me to never give up and she wasnt ready to give up either and fought hard. A wonderful physio team at the resthome got her walking and she was than able to return home defying the doctors.
Last year was not the best either. We lost our beloved Mitzy who was a one eyed stroke survivor cat who also would sleep alongside mum keeping her company (picture included). Than we had a flood meaning mum had to go into respite care for a bit and than Ferby our feral cat joined Mitzy also. In September Mum got pneumonia and after 5 weeks in hospital was allowed to come home. Doctors than said she was end life and needs carers here all day. She is now bedbound but still fighting on. The cost of daytime carers is approx NZD $1800.00 per week.
Please help me cover mums carer costs. I work fulltime in the day so we can pay the Bill's associated with owning your own home , food, and mums carer costs. I am also her carer in the evening and all weekend .Whether mum is here in our home or a resthome we are not funded. Mums wish is to stay here in her own home and hospital have approved that.
I was a rainbow baby so am the only surviving child and no other immediate family to reach out to for financial assistance.
I dont know how much longer I will have my luverlly Mum but each day now is very precious.
Please support us. No matter how big or small it will make a huge difference to both of us and relieve some of the stresses we currently have.
All I want is for my Mum to be able to spend her last days at home not worrying about anything.
Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts.
Josie and Katie xx
