With the coronavirus outbreak, children in vulnerable communities in South Africa are in great need for books and hygienic/food supplies.
Read to Rise works with 14,600 children in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, South Africa as well as 5,400 children in Soweto, JHB.
We would like to give each of these children a Care Pack with an Oaky and the Virus story book, an Oaky Activity book, a bar of soap, a cloth mask, a juice and a packet of crisps.
Oaky and the Virus is a book written by South African poet and social philosopher Athol Williams and illustrated by Taryn Lock. The book is about acorns Oaky and Oaket who need to stay at home when a virus came to their town.
For only R100 a child, a child will receive a Care Pack.
On 1-2 September 2020, the READ to RISE team visited Meadowridge Primary School in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain. 128 Care Packs were given out. Thank you to our sponsors! The children were excited to get their surprise :)

You'll essentially get your own fundraising page dedicated to campaign 'Care Packs for Children in Mitchells Plain and Soweto #covid19 #inthistogether' and all funds raised will go directly to Taryn Lock.
You'll have your own unique link that you can share, and Taryn Lock can see just how much you've helped. Your campaign will also be showcased from the main campaign.
It takes just minutes to create and you can start accepting donations right away! Get started now...
