About Carebear Haven

Carebear Haven is a Charity Organization dedicated to empowering abused men and women to leave their abusive relationships and get custody of their kids. We also try to provide them with shelter and meals thereby enabling victims of abuse to provide for their children under our protection and away from the abusive partner.

Population-level surveys based on reports from victims provide the most accurate estimates of the prevalence of intimate partner violence and sexual violence. A 2013 analysis conduct by WHO with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the South Africa Medical Research Council, used existing data from over 80 countries and found that worldwide, 1 in 3, or 35%, of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner or non-partner sexual violence. We are determined to help make a world a better place for these victims.

Carebear Haven also offers abused, neglected and abandoned children love and care in a secure and warm enviroment. And empowers woman with unplanned pregnancies to provide them with shelter and and meals and guide her to her choices other than abortion.

OUR SUCCESS STORIES

Since our establishment, we have helped quite a few people get back on their feet again. Some of our best success stories include;

EMILY

About six months before she sought help at Carebear Haven with her 18-month-old son Mike, Emily had moved to Krugersdorp to be with her husband, Mike’s father, in an attempt to make their relationship work. But it did not last long.
Emily chose to leave Mike’s father because she wanted to provide better care for her son, who had been born prematurely and had several health issues that required surgery. She didn’t want to raise him in a place where his mom was hit all the time.
Emily shared with us her fight to stay free of the drugs and alcohol she used when things at home became too difficult to handle. She sought the support of staff and other agencies to remain drug and alcohol free and to process the situation with her son.
Staff worked with Emily to create a safety plan for her trip to the hospital for surgery and the difficult time that would lie ahead. Emily was clearly determined to put her son and herself first and to keep her family safe. Mike’s surgery took place about three weeks into her stay and while he recovered at the hospital, Emily spent her free time attending meetings and working on her plan. Emily stayed with Mike until they could both return to the Carebear Haven, and she returned to us very excited about the progress that he had made.
Mike is walking and talking up a storm, her divorce is final and she and Mike are living in one of Carebear Haven Units.

RITA
Rita came to the Care Bear Haven as a single woman who is legally blind. She had been in an abusive relationship for three years. Her partner often pushed and punched her during arguments and had recently pushed her off of the porch.
Rita openly stated all she really wanted was to be on her own and to support herself. Through her stay at Carebear Haven, Rita sought medical attention, obtained a job and interviewed for transitional housing. The physical and emotional transformation that Rita displayed during her stay was also amazing. As her body healed, her self-esteem grew. She met with her counselor and shared how she felt like she was growing into a new woman.
Rita began feeling good about herself. She started wearing makeup and smiling more. She has remained at Carebear Haven she continues to do well and is enjoying her newfound independence.
