Chronology and Impact of Banjir Bandang

High intensity rain has poured in a number of areas in Southeast Sulawesi since the end of last May. As a result, the flow of water in a number of rivers is increasingly heavy and causes flooding in a number of regions.

Data from the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), seven districts / cities affected by flooding were Kendari City, North Konawe Regency, Konawe Regency, South Konawe Regency, East Kolaka Regency, North Buton Regency, and Bombana Regency.

Based on data from the Humanity Data Center DMII on Monday (10/6), the total number of refugees in the Southeast Sulawesi flood was 7,789. The flood also caused 2,224 housing units to be flooded.

Residents who lived in refugees due to flooding since June 2, began to get sick

diarrhea, reduced supply of clean water is one of the causes of refugee residents

complaining of abdominal pain or diarrhea.

The victim who died was named Usman, a resident of Ulumeraka Village, Onembute District, Konawe Regency. Victims were dragged down by the flood on Sunday (06/09/2019).

Meanwhile, according to the North Konawe BPBD data, in North Konawe alone there were 4,089 people affected by floods and 56 houses were washed away by the current, not to mention in other Regency / City areas. Residents also fled to safer places.
