When Car & Friends debuted on the MAP Entertainments website in March of 2015, it was a side-project. The other comics I was making for the site at the time had ongoing stories, and I saw the strip format of C&F as a way to make something sharable and attract people to the site so they'd read those other comics, the "real" ones, as I thought of them.
Fast-forward to now, when Car & Friends is the most popular thing I've ever made. The side-project has grown into the flagship, which—as a visual metaphor—leaves something to be desired.
As for the comics themselves? If I had to give them a tagline, it would be: "Conversations that could almost happen." That doesn't apply to every strip in the series, but that mentality is behind the humor that drives it. Most of the time I hate my obsessive habit of constantly having conversations/arguments in my head with people I know. Many times I have wished I could tone down these hypothetical back-and-forths, but if I'm being honest, half the comics in the series are conceived this way.
I like to straddle the line between slice-of-life and absurd, and if you're here, reading this, I'm guessing you've been enjoying my attempts. This Kickstarter is primarily to collect the best strips in a physical book along with lots of extra content, guest comics, behind-the-scenes nonsense, and so on! (And to provide a digital version of the book.) But there's more to it than that. If this is funded, the book will be tangible proof that there's more than a passing interest in these comics and this brand of humor. If you back this, you'll be getting that book (yay!), but you'll also be tending to the future of Car & Friends, helping us get somewhere with this comic we would probably never get to otherwise.
Be sure to take a look at all the reward tiers, as they are as robust as they are variegated, and keep scrolling down to see the stretch goals I've conceived so far. You're sure to find something that's perfectly suited to your Car & Friends needs.
And let me say thank you for every like, upvote, thoughtful comment, share, and DM that has gotten us to this point :)
Many of the reward tiers include your choice of one of two t-shirts: 1) a Grank t-shirt from the caveman Car & Friends series or 2) a depressed frog t-shirt from what is arguably the most popular comic I've made overall. (Available colors/styles TBA.)
