My wife and I are in the process of opening up and starting a Montessori Nursery School in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has spent many years studying and obtaining various degrees and qualifications for working with young children. She is a qualified child psychologist and registered Montessori Educator. Her dream has always to have her own Nursery School where she can focus on child development, learning and understanding and creating a life long impact on the children that will shape their futures for the better.
With my wife completed her studies and being awarded her Montessori Degree with distinctions, she has adopted the Maria Montessori way of life into her everyday living and has an intense passion and commitment to the Montessori way of life. She has worked in regular nursery schools, and most recently over the past 2 years at a Montessori, where her level of understanding and undying commitment to children has been solidified to the point where she wants to leave behind her own legacy and provide her own safe place for learning, playing and growing. She wants to have a Montessori of her own where she can continuously apply, teach and encourage children to explore the world around them in a Nursery School that she can call home.
One of our relatives has offered us a property to use as the foundation for the school on a lease-to-own contract agreement. The contract is relatively relaxed for now in terms of repayment on the property until the school is up on it's feet and essentially self-sustaining.
Between my wife and I, we have pooled together every last scrap of savings we have in order to pay for the town planners, renovation costs and re-zoning of the property in order to start the process of turning the property into a flourishing Montessori Nursery School.
In terms of funding, our biggest expenditures will be the down payment on the property, purchasing furniture, learning materials, marketing, branding and advertising.
We have put together a rough estimate for the start up costs that we will struggle to fund and finance while keeping the costs on a relatively low budget.
Our cost breakdowns are as follows:
- R 200 000 (+- $ 15 000)
Down Payment on the Property
- R 120 000 (+- $ 9 000)
Furniture and Classroom Furniture
- R 96 000 @ R 8000 p/m ( +- $ 7200 @ $ 600 p/m)
x 1 Year Montessori Teacher Salary
- R 90 000 (+- $ 6 800)
Montessori Registered & Approved Learning Materials
- R 60 000 @ R 5000 p/m (+- $ 4500 @ $ 375 p/m)
x 1 Year Assistant Teacher Salary
- R 15 000 (+- $ 1130)
Branding & Marketing
I know that is a lot to ask as a complete stranger, but we honestly would appreciate any help with donations to make this dream a reality as every donation will make a significant difference whether it's big or small.
With our love and thanks,
Mike & Mel
