The Natasha Love Foundation works to carry out the mission of
Natasha Love Gonsalves.
Natasha’s mission is clear--to reach out and help others through the arts.

In Rhode Island, homicide and suicide are the leading causes of death of children under the age of 24. Last year alone, over 110 children died as a result of homicide and an almost equal number of children died from suicide. All of our children must be protected from these senseless acts, and should have access to alternatives that provide a brighter future for them, and for their families.

My name is Rebecca Flores, founder of The Natasha Love Foundation, and I am organizing a capital campaign drive to acquire a facility to provide educational and art-related therapeutic programs for under-privileged youth. By day, I am a mother, artist, educator, business manager, art teacher, and wearer of many hats, as many of us are. My heart, however, is The Natasha Love Foundation, and there is no doubt, that with a little help, I can make this a success, and make a difference for many Rhode Islanders.

The Natasha Love Foundation is a 501(c) (3) organization established in memory of Natasha Love Gonsalves, an 18 year old high School graduate whose life was taken due to an act of teen violence, on March 20, 2008. Our foundation is seeking your support because I believe that every second we can work together for our children, may provide an answer to a child in trouble. Every effort we can make now, to create awareness and hope, can reveal a better choice to a child who may be bullied, alone or afraid.

Your contribution will help us provide such an alternative, and will help us reach our goal and carry the light that Natasha shed on everyone she touched, by empowering them to shine through the arts.

In order for us to continue this work, it’s important that we sustain the means, to continue to foster an atmosphere where our youth are comfortable to be themselves, become inspired by their talents, and the talents of others, and feel empowered. The Natasha Love Foundation has done just that by providing quality arts programming for youth for the past six years. We have done this by traveling to organizations, to schools, and to homes.

In order to increase our capacity and scope, we are in need of a space of our own.

By acquiring a space of our own, we will be able to secure a sense of stability, vital to the health and well-being of our kids. Our space will be one where our youth can come to meet, work, store their work, build on their artistic skills, and share their experiences with each other, with art mentors, and art teachers from around the community.

It is my belief that when our young people can spark their creativity in areas such as the arts, it helps them begin to chart a path to achieving their dreams, rather than engaging in negativity, such as teen violence.

Our vision is that this will happen through a combination of the following endeavors:

  1. Youth arts programming – that fosters skills to develop potential artists, and also provide support needed to promote health and healing.
  1. Youth and community performances – that inspire strength and courage
  1. A rotating gallery of youth and community-member work – that promotes a sense of service and giving back. It’s critical that we encourage our youth to understand that it is not only important and honorable to give back; it’s also an unspoken function of being human; to serve others, and to give back to those who have given so generously to us.
  1. A comprehensive source for course credit– In the areas of Art and Service, to graduating seniors and/or future undergraduates seeking acceptance into a certificate program, or at an institution of higher learning.

(The profits from which will go directly to the foundation and its programs)

The Natasha Love Foundation is determined to celebrate Natasha’s light by using the arts as a vehicle for providing solutions to social problems. Because of the size of our little Rhode Island, the devastating violence, suicide and other senseless acts have touched our lives, or someone we know, too many times. We need your help to see that our children, and our families, friends, and neighbor’s children, stay safe. Will you please consider making a donation to help us achieve our goal of acquiring a place of our own? Help us continue on this path? Please say YES!

FROM US AND FROM OUR AWE-INSPIRING YOUTH, WE THANK YOU!

Together we can make a difference for our youth!
