The Rainbow Academy, recent recipient of this years BASA's (Business in Arts South Africa) Awards, is a registered non for profit School of Performing Arts and Business for previously and historically disadvantaged youth in Cape Town (092-334-NPO), that has been awarded the lifetime opportunity to represent South Africa and promote their outstanding contribution to youth and community development at the UNITED NATIONS NELSON MANDELA PEACE SUMMIT, being held at the UN Headquarters in New York, on the 24th of September 2018.

Denay Willie, Co-Founder and Director for the Academy, was selected amongst hundreds of international applicants to attend the summit as an official stakeholder, representative and ambassador for the academy. 8 years on from co-founding the Academy, Denay has been granted the highest privilege of presenting almost a decade of youth community work in South Africa at the highest table set in honour of our Hero, Nelson Mandela. With over 400 scholarships, jobs and internships mobilized through the Academy for unemployed youth, aged 17-25 years from the Cape Flats and Townships since 2010, this is indeed the ground breaking opportunity that the academy needs and is truly deserving of.

“Our Cape Town school has been a phenomenal success with hundreds of lives impacted and changed for the better. In a world where youth unemployment is at crises level, youth education and transformation initiatives are desperately needed. We want to present our 8 years of work and seek support to bring it to the next level. We would like to build schools in Johannesburg, Durban and throughout Africa. Our youth need guidance, support, opportunities and pathways for empowerment and we have developed them. This is a once in a life-time opportunity for us to gain the much needed support we need to give voice to our vision on a global stage. We are appealing for your help, support, pledges and donations to avail of it.”

To enable the academy to sponsor Denay as their official representative, with the intention of promoting the work of the academy with prospective funders and partners from other schools, NPO’s and active rights groups, the academy is aiming to raise 70k, of which 40% will be used for the purpose of Denay’s travel to the UN in New York City from the 21st-28th September. The remaining balance will be allocated to the academy’s 2019 budget for students on scholarships who are struggling on a daily basis with transport costs to get to school.

We THANK YOU for investing and sowing your seed to help us represent SA and take our seat at the #NelsonMandelaPeaceSummit #RainbowAcademy #HeritageMonth2K18 summit this year!
