Since I've met my husband in 2010, all he wanted to do is to represent his beloved country at the Olympics! At last on the age of 27 Schalk Oosthuizen, my husband, has been chosen to represent Namibia in the ICF Canoe Polo World Championships. (Not the Olympics yet, but close enough.) Since 2002, only 1 team in Africa is allowed to qualify for the World Championships. His team qualified in 2017, for the first time, to go to the ICF World Championships 2018 held in Welland, Canada. This is a massive achievement for the Namibians.
Unfortunately the budget per player is round about 5000 - 6000 USD (R65000.00). The equipment of this sport consits out of a special canoe, paddles, life jacket, helmet, face guards and the rest of the kit. They also need to fly with all the equipment hence the big budget. At the end of the World Championships, Schalk and the rest of the team will donate some of their previously used and new equipment to a local canoe club in Africa for developmental purposes. It is important to give back to the community and so they will give someone else a chance to develop and maybe discover a hidden talent.
The tournament date is 31 July - 5 August. I hereby appeal to any individual or company willing to assit us in raising the required funds for Schalk to go on this tour.
A heartfelt thank you in advance.
A supporting wife, Jacomi.
