Hi! I’m Toshikazu Motegi, I’m Filipino-Japanese who’s currently living in Japan. My mother, Irene Motegi, who is living in the Philippines was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cervical Cancer on December 2019. She started her 6 rounds of chemotherapy in January 2020. After that she undergone Radiation Therapy for a month and after those two treatments, she did Brachytherapy for an entire month. Initially, her cancer seemed to be responding to the treatments that were part of her protocol. She was well after those treatments and was very positive and happy knowing she managed to survive and live a second life. However, starting in January 2021, she started feeling back and neck pain and started developing breathing problems. She was confined at a hospital for about 10 days. After she went home, her symptoms worsened. She had an x-ray done and it showed fluid buildup on her lungs. She was confined again for about 2 weeks. Her doctor ordered a CT scan to exactly know what was going on and on February 24, 2021 it was confirmed that her cancer metastasized to her lungs.
We have spent nearly $40,000 on her initial cancer treatment, follow-up check ups, medicines, and hospital confinements. Her new cancer needs to be treated and it would take a lot of money to do so. As her son, I know it’s my responsibility to provide my mother all she needs, especially now that her life is in danger because of her metastatic cancer but I have already used up all of my savings and now I’ve fallen deeply into debt because of my mother’s initial medical expenses.
Please help me and my mother get through this dark chapter in our lives. I love my mother so much and I don’t want her to die just yet. I still have 2 siblings in the Philippines who are very young, 10 and 12 years old, and they still need my mother. I know my mom is a fighter and have a strong will to live. She is a strong woman but we need your support. Thank you
Where will the money be used for?
Cancer care and treatment options such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy are very expensive in the Philippines. As my mom is not covered by private health insurance, our only option for treatment will be out-of-pocket. The money that will be raised will also be used to cover doctor’s fee, laboratory tests, CT scan, and other necessities such as pain management medications. The necessary hospice care will also be covered by the money that will be raised through this campaign.
Why we need your help and support:
As I have mentioned earlier, all of my savings have been emptied because of my mom’s initial cancer treatment. As the breadwinner of my family in the Philippines and the only supporter of my mom’s needs, I need financial support to be able to continue with my mom’s cancer treatment. Please help me and my mom. I believe that even though my mother has Stage 4 Cervical Cancer, she will still be healed and lead a normal life provided we continue her cancer treatment. My little brother and sister (10 and 12 years old) still need our mom.
Please help us get through this chapter in our life.
