UPDATE, January 2019:
Unfortunately, the initial treatment I mentioned in the original post here hasn't taken well. It perhaps worked for a short while but I developed a resistance and am in disease progression. (The treatment is called Sunitinib.) Currently my doctor advised me to move on to a drug called Pazobanib, which is Php3,000.00/day, which is a lot less expensive. I'm taking this as a blessing to help lessen the financial burden. I wouldn't have been able to survive 6 months on Sunitinib without all of your love, support, and help. Still marching forward as optimistic as ever!
Hi! My name is Aih Mendoza, a 25-year-old girl from Manila, Philippines.
Unfortunately, last December, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma. It's a very rare kind of cancer that is seen in less than 1% of all cancer patients and mostly affects teens and young adults. The primary tumor started in my left thigh and has unfortunately metastasised to my lungs.
Fortunately, I was able to have major surgery done to remove the primary mass in my leg. However, now we're looking at the multiple tumors in my lungs (found in the lower lobes of both). The bad new is that Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma, being rare and lacking a lot of research, doesn't respond well to more common methods of cancer treatment such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy. There is currently no sure fire way to completely shrink or remove the tumor from my lungs, but there is a way to suppress the growth and progression of the cancer.
This means that I am unlikely to be totally cancer-free, but I may be able to live with it with the help of medication called Sunitib. In a nutshell, Sunitib keeps the tumors from growing.
The catch is that I'll have to take one dose of it every day for the foreseeable future, and every dose I need costs Php9,000.00 or $173.00. Coming from the major surgery, this is quite an expense we have to shoulder and maintain. Currently, I set my fundraising goal to help me maintain a year's worth of medication, as this is the best duration estimate we have.
I realize it's a lot of money and it's a lot to ask from people. However, the messiness of life is where true hopefulness can come through and with an open heart, I humbly hope for any help I can ask for. Any little help will honestly go a long way. I don't expect to reach my goals through just donations and we're working hard on fundraising via events and the like, but I'm keeping all paths open for any love, kindness, and miracle we might find.
If a direct donation isn't possible for you right now, you can visit facebook.com/helpaihbeatcancer to see other events or efforts we might be doing to help raise funds as well. :)
Or, if you're from the Philippines and a direct bank deposit is more convenient for you, you may also deposit at

Even just a prayer, a kind message, or positive thoughts would be appreciated too. This is not a war to face alone and any ally I can find in the face of this beast is a win for me.
Thank you so much for reading this far, if you've read this far! Know that I'm here, still moving forward in all the ways I know how.
