Alison is only 3 years old. She was first stricken with pneumonia and high fevers. Was brought into a local hospital twice in emergency, and they said to just give her meds and rest. After pneumonia cleared up, she started getting pale, lack of energy, sore back and more high fevers. Very upsetting to see her so ill, and none of the local doctors seemed to take it seriously enough , so ended up taking her to Toronto Sick Children's Hospital, on our own (no referral!) After 2 days of tests, they diagnosed her with leukemia cancer (ALL) and she had to stay in hospital for 13 days. Took one week just to bring her fever down. If she was never brought in within a week, she would've died. Mom had to leave her job to take care of her full-time. She started chemotherapy treatments right away. She still has 2 more years left of chemo treatments.
It is hard financially with only one paycheque in the family. Dad works a job, but the bills add up. Transportation costs to hospital for chemo treatments, including parking costs, her chemo and other meds are expensive as well.
We would really appreciate any help... It was a very shocking and devastating day when we found out she had cancer. Really turned our life upside down.
Thank you so much
