Campaign Story
Cancer Can't Keep Us Down
Come down and support the Goji Warrior Family by deadlifting for donations! Our goal is to raise $100,000 (HKD) in donations and a total of 500,000kg deadlifted by individuals. This events offers both information to learn about Cancer, as well as contributing to the cause.
Their Stories
Phil Smith, from his son, Aussie.
When I look back at the times I have shared with my Dad, I can honestly say that there hasn’t been a day in my life where the Big Dog hasn’t put my brother and I first. He brought us up a single parent in New Zealand before moving us to Australia in the new millennium. Pup’s is the kind of guy that sacrificed everything to ensure we had the best opportunities in life. I don’t think he bought himself a tee-shirt for 5 years at one point, so don’t rip him for his terrible dress sense.
Sadly and unexpectedly, my Dad was diagnosed with cancer in September. I received a call from him, strangely on my birthday, explaining that it was aggressive, late stage and untreatable. Like so many others affected by this terrible disease, he went from being on top of the world to confronting his mortality in a couple of hours. Of course, the old man took it on the chin and pretended he was fine, but it was a reminder about the brevity of life and how we so often take good health for granted.
With that in mind, we are launching this event to bring our community together and to give back to everyone facing this fight today. It is predicted that Cancer will affect 1 in 3 of us, so it is fair to say that it is something we need to continually address and unite against.
To all that have responded here in Hong Kong, in Australia and of course from my Dad’s support network, it has been overwhelming and I cannot thank you all enough.
We can only control our reaction to these events and as such ‘Cancer Can't Keep Us Down’ is a platform where we can show my Dad, Emily and everyone else dealing with this disease that we care.
