Cancer Awareness and Screening in Kenya

THE “COMMUNITY CANCER SCREENING PROJECT”

Cancer Awareness Centre of Kenya (CACK) is pleased to present to you the proposal for Community Cancer Screening Project attached for your evaluation. The underlying central efforts motivating us in generating funds for Community Cancer Screening Project include; first, immense rising burden of cancer cases in the developing countries. Secondly, our organizational vision and mission statements, (1) Our Vision, to have a Cancer free society through early detection, diet interventions, physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. (2) Our Mission, to create Health Awareness on lifestyle diseases by making wider strides on the prevalent diseases affecting the society.

The main objective of the project is to screen people for reproductive cancers and increase awareness about cancer. The project is meant to reducing the likelihood of cancer related deaths because regular screenings catches most cancers early. It is estimated that many cancers are curable only if detected at early stages. The Community Cancer Screening Project is essential to our communities because of the following reasons; (1) early detection and early treatment reduces future costs because cancer treatment is very expensive and drains a lot of family resources, (2) awareness and information about cancer will help promote the health of our communities.

The grant will allow us screen 100,000 people in the 20 identified counties. It will also employ 100 volunteers from diverse health disciplines. The volunteers will be working on screening, providing referrals where necessary, creating awareness and providing health education to the communities. We have seen measurable impacts in our previous projects and we are now seeking to expand our cancer screenings to Counties. The proposal is requesting for a grant of 1,000,000US Dollars to enable screen more than a hundred thousand individuals.
