Campaign Story
Ye ma ye pa ingla, ye thwee ma plo.
My name's Steve, I've been living and working in Mae Sot for 10 years and recently moved to Hpa-an. When I arrived, I fell in love with this place and the people and so moved here to live and train students. When I first arrived, the biggest barrier to higher education was a lack of recognized certificates. Over the past few years, Brighter Futures has been offering free education leading to the GED certificate. Many students are now qualified to go to university, but the biggest problem now is money.
I'm currently responsible for finding money for seven students at university in Thailand and four more online students. But I have 15 more in GED and 22 in pre-GED. We've had lots of help from my friends, and now I'm wondering if the Karen community can also help?
It costs about $4,000 for one year of study at a typical Thai university. It sounds a lot, but there are millions of Karen around the world who have resettled. If many of you could give just $1 or $2, it could help your brothers and sisters here to get a university education and then develop their villages and towns.
I'll leave this open, and if you have questions, please find me on Facebook - Steve Gomersall Yensta
