Uganda is a country of children raising children. I first visited in 2009 and was grieved by the lack of parents. As I asked questions and learned more, I found out that the AIDS epidemic and the war at the hands of the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) has left 2.5 million children orphaned in this country that is about the size of Oregon. The education system is what you would expect of a third world country, lacking significantly. As a nurse, I began asking questions that began with how. How do we stop the devastation of AIDS? How do we reach out to 2.5 million orphans? How do we bridge the gap in education? How do we help kids out of survival mode to think about the future?
Abundant Life Ministries Uganda strives to reach out to the youth of Uganda through christian camping ministries. We use education, Life Skills training, games and mentoring relationships to aid students as they grow into who God has created them to be, so they can experience the fullness of life He has to offer them. We have been facilitating camps since 2010 and have reached hundreds of students. We have outgrown the facilities we have been renting, so we are buying our own place. It is an exciting time in our ministry and we are thrilled to have a place to call home!!! 29 acres of beautiful farmland just outside of Jinja in Southeast Uganda. We want to build a facility that allows kids to feel safe and experience the love the Creator has for them through enjoying His creation.
