Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. As many of you know, The Philippines was devastated by Typhoon Nina (known internationally as Nock-Ten) on Christmas Day. The typhoon was the strongest to hit the Bicol Region for several years, sustaining winds of up to 200 kph and gusts of 237 kph.
The category 4 Typhoon obliterated several parts of Camarines Sur and it’s surroundings, which resulted in the crippling of infrastructure. As of today, December 29, it has been reported that approximately 25,000 homes are completely damaged and 70,000 are partially damaged. Many schools, hospitals, crops and livelihoods have been destroyed and a majority of the utilities (water, electricity and phone lines) have also been severely damaged.
I am currently here in the province to start relief efforts, and it’s amazing to witness how people have already begun clearing the roads and salvaging what’s left of their homes. However, the little money that they have left is going towards feeding their families and therefore they don’t have the funds to buy the necessary materials to rebuild their homes. This is where we come in.
We are looking to raise money to fund relief efforts, as each family will need up to 60,000 pesos (US$1,200) to build a disaster resilient home. All donations will go towards buying the necessary materials for families to be able to do this.
We are asking anyone who is able to please donate whatever you can, as any amount would be helpful towards rebuilding the lives and homes of so many.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.
