This volunteering trip will be hosted by IVHQ (The International Volunteering Head Quarters). IVHQ bring people of more than 96 nationalities together which creates a positive transformation through life-enriching travel experiences. IVHQ only work with organisations that genuinely understand the needs of the communities they serve and regularly audit each program to ensure it’s delivering its intended impact. Every IVHQ program works towards sustainable long-term goals that benefit the local economy, environment and its people.
This three week Cusco volunteering trip (starting on the 25th of October) is a unique project in that the contribution as a construction volunteer is three-fold. Any volunteering assists with construction and renovation tasks, donations towards the project help to pay for materials, and the resulting buildings can be used to host other important community projects. This is especially important in low-income communities in Cusco which may be lacking funds and resources to see projects through.
As a Construction and Renovations volunteer I’ll help at local building projects, often at schools, community centres and clinics, giving my time and effort to see them finished. I’ll volunteer under the supervision of a local foreman, who will provide their direction and expertise. The type of projects I’ll work on will depend on local priorities at the time, but volunteer duties will include: construction, renovation, painting building and gardening.
This three week expedition will be a fantastic opportunity for me to pursue something that I am very passionate about, contributing to poorer communities that are based in culturally rich and diverse parts of the world.
For this fundraiser I will be cycling 212 miles along the Hebridean Way cycling route, which is from Vatersay to the furthest northern point in Stornoway, the Butt of Lewis. I will be doing this over the course of 3 days, averaging around 62 miles a day. I will be partaking in this route from the 11th to the 14th of October.
Any contribution towards this expedition would be very welcome and much appreciated.
