Climate change is one of the major threats humanity faces today. Changing rainfall intensity and occurrence, rising temperature and change in sea elevation are just some of the immediate consequences of climate change. This global phenomenon has increased the severity of flooding and drought in both developed and developing nations. Many under developed and developing nations are vulnerable to climate impacts.

The Philippines is one of the developing countries in Southeast Asia that experienced firsthand the impact of stronger typhoons, landslides, mudslides, flooding and drought. Reports sho that climate change is already affecting many upland farming communities in Davao, Palawan and Mindoro.

This initiative will focus on understanding and identifying resilience among 9 upland farming communities in Isabela, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya where the United Methodist Church is located. By understanding vulnerabilities and adaptation practices among these communities, we will be able to determine the current state of many upland farming communities as well as the technological, economic and policy gaps in order to create lasting resilience in the midst of changing climate.

With your support, this comprehensive assessment can be used to help farmers become more resilient in the face of climate change.
