Who am I?

My name is Nathalie, I come from Martinique, a small French island in the Caribbean. I have been living in Valencia, Spain for more than 15 years where I met my ex-partner, who is also French. After 10 years of living together, in January 2019, we separated. We are parents of a 5-year-old boy.

My professional situation

I’m a freelance French teacher (for non-French speakers), I teach in several language centers. Since my separation, my schedule depends exclusively on the school calendar. Unfortunately, these schedules are incompatible with those of my students, most of whom are available at the end of the day after work. As a result, the small salary I had was divided by 2 or even 3 some months.

My ex-partner works in a big French multinational company. He has always had a much higher salary than mine and even more so after the separation.

Why the crowdfunding?

After the separation, I took the necessary steps to reach an amicable agreement with my ex-partner for the good of our son and also to avoid unnecessary costs. But a few months later, my ex-partner changed his mind and without communication, he hired a lawyer because he could afford it. Moreover, I didn’t expect to suffer psychological attacks in order to discredit myself in front of the law. With my small salary, I had to ask for a court-appointed lawyer who unfortunately cannot give all the necessary attention to a case in which the future of a minor is at stake.

Because of the manipulations of my ex-partner, who is asking that I be deprived of our son's custody and my parental rights, I am involved in a legal proceeding in which I must demonstrate that I am a good mother, psychologically stable and non-violent with my son. Therefore, I need to hire a lawyer who could give more time and attention to my situation.

I am also thinking long-term and I want to start a project that would allow me to have financial comfort and no longer depend economically on my ex-partner to make the best decisions for our son.

My project

I have been teaching French for about 7 years. I am very proud to share French culture through my teaching of French, which is a language that is constantly evolving and much studied around the world. I have started to train myself in order to create an online platform for French training. It’s a project of freedom: to combine professional and personal life, to earn a living while being present for my son. My project consists in accompanying those who need it in learning French, with a simple and complete online training that can be followed at one’s own pace.

To do this, I would need a budget that I don't have, to cover the costs of designing the online platform, buying the material necessary to create the courses and my own training in business creation and web marketing.
