Campaign Story
If you're like me, the coverage of what's happening with the refugees in Calais has made you sick. Whatever we do in the long therm, right now these people need our help and if the media and Government insist on acting with such utter callosness then we need to take this into our own hands and help where we can.
I've arranged to drive over with a van full of Amsterdam bikes at the end of September! So, while I'm at it I thought I would also take medical and sanitary supplies and this is where you come in!
The DRS OF THE WORLD are working in the camps and have requested packs with specific items which I will buy here and take in the bikevan from Amsterdam. There's a photo of what goes in the packs up there in the pictures tab.
The items in these packs cost pence if you buy them in bulk and that's what I'm going to do, with your help!
There are almost no showers in the camps and people are getting sick from the unsanitary conditions and the lack of access to water. These packs can at least help with the simple dignity of keeping clean.
If you donate in £ and I buy here in Amsterdam we'll get the added benefit of the tasty exchange rate (cheers George) so your money will go even further.
Edited to add: Whatever you think about the politics and what should happen next, the people there are fleeing war, oppression, torture and poverty. The same thing we would do in their shoes. They have left their homes and all their possessions to try and save themselves and their families and now have nothing. No sanitation, no proper housing, no decent shoes, no toothbrushes even. While we sort this whole mess out, basic levels of care need to be met.

Yay!!
Update posted by Matilda Mitford at 04:45 pmWow, made my updated target in two days *blink*. I will keep fundraising and everything I get over the total will add to the amount of supplies I can take. If I have to do two runs, so much the better! Lots of people have asked me if there is. . . . .
